Organization Verification
Learn how to verify your organization on Opengates — understand the three verification methods (Registration Certificate, Attestation Letter, Website), the submission process, review timeline, and what the verification badge means.
Why Organization Verification Matters
In an online marketplace, trust is everything. Freelancers want to know that the organizations posting tasks are legitimate, established entities — not fraudulent accounts or impersonators. Organization verification on Opengates is the process by which your organization proves its authenticity, earning a verification badge that is displayed prominently on your profile and task listings.
Benefits of Being Verified
Verification provides significant advantages for your organization on the platform:
- Increased trust — Freelancers are more likely to apply for tasks posted by verified organizations. The verification badge signals that your organization has been reviewed and confirmed as legitimate by Opengates.
- Higher visibility — Verified organizations may receive priority placement in search results and discovery features, helping you attract top talent more easily.
- Professional credibility — The verification badge distinguishes your organization from unverified accounts, giving you a competitive edge when competing for the attention of skilled freelancers.
- Stronger brand presence — When your verification badge appears alongside your organization's logo on task listings and profiles, it reinforces the professionalism and legitimacy of your brand.
- Reduced friction — Verified organizations experience smoother interactions on the platform. Freelancers are less likely to question the legitimacy of your projects, leading to faster hiring and more productive working relationships.
What Does the Verification Badge Look Like?
The verification badge is a visual indicator — typically a checkmark or shield icon — that appears next to your organization's name. You'll see it on:
- Your organization's profile page
- All task listings posted by your organization
- Search results where your organization appears
- Any place your organization's name is displayed on the platform
The badge is automatically applied once your verification is approved. You don't need to add it manually or configure anything — it simply appears everywhere your organization's name is shown.
Three Ways to Verify Your Organization
Opengates offers three distinct verification methods to accommodate different types of organizations. You only need to complete one of these methods to earn your verification badge. Choose the method that best fits your organization's situation and the documents you have available.
Method 1: Registration Certificate
A Registration Certificate is an official document issued by a government authority that confirms your organization's legal registration. This is the most common verification method and is suitable for most businesses and registered entities.
What Qualifies as a Registration Certificate?
The following documents are accepted:
- Business registration certificate issued by your country's commerce or business registry
- Certificate of incorporation for corporations
- LLC registration documents
- Trade license or business permit
- Non-profit registration certificate from a government authority
- Any official government-issued document that confirms your organization's legal existence and registration number
Requirements for Your Document
To ensure your submission is accepted, your registration certificate must:
- Be a clear, legible scan or photograph of the original document
- Show your organization's registered name — this should match or closely correspond to the name on your Opengates profile
- Include the registration number or reference number issued by the registering authority
- Show the issuing authority's name and seal (if applicable)
- Be current and valid — expired documents will not be accepted
- Be in a supported file format: PDF, PNG, JPG, or JPEG
- Not exceed the maximum file size limit (check the upload interface for current limits)
If your document is in a language other than English, you may be asked to provide a certified translation.
Method 2: Attestation Letter
An Attestation Letter is a formal letter that confirms the existence and legitimacy of your organization. This method is useful for organizations that may not have a traditional business registration certificate — such as community organizations, informal groups with formal leadership, or organizations in jurisdictions where registration certificates are not standard.
What Qualifies as an Attestation Letter?
An acceptable attestation letter should:
- Be written on official letterhead of a recognized institution (a bank, government office, legal firm, accounting firm, or similar authoritative body)
- Confirm the existence of your organization by name
- Include the date the letter was written (must be recent — ideally within the last 12 months)
- Be signed by an authorized representative of the issuing institution
- Include contact information for the issuing institution so that Opengates can verify the letter's authenticity if needed
Examples of Acceptable Attestation Letters
- A letter from your bank confirming your organization has an active business account
- A letter from a government office confirming your organization's registration or recognition
- A letter from a legal or accounting firm that has worked with your organization, confirming its existence and operations
- A letter from an industry association confirming your organization's membership
Document Requirements
- Clear, legible scan or photograph
- Supported file format: PDF, PNG, JPG, or JPEG
- Must show the issuing institution's letterhead clearly
- Signature must be visible
- If in a language other than English, a certified translation may be requested
Method 3: Website Verification
Website verification allows you to verify your organization by submitting your official website for review. This is the most accessible method and works well for organizations that have an established online presence but may not have formal registration documents readily available.
How Website Verification Works
When you submit your website for verification, the Opengates team reviews it to confirm:
- The website is active and functional — not a placeholder, under construction, or parked domain
- The website represents your organization — the name, branding, and content on the website correspond to your Opengates organization profile
- The website demonstrates legitimacy — it includes information about your organization's services, team, mission, contact details, or other content that confirms the organization is real and operational
- The domain ownership can be reasonably attributed to your organization
Requirements for Website Verification
- Your website must be publicly accessible — password-protected or restricted sites cannot be verified
- The website URL must match the website you've listed on your Opengates organization profile
- The website should have substantive content — a single landing page with no information is unlikely to pass verification
- The website should include contact information or an about page that confirms the organization's details
- Social media pages alone (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram) typically do not qualify as a website for verification purposes. You should have your own domain.
Tips for Successful Website Verification
- Make sure your website is up-to-date and free of broken links or error pages
- Include an "About" page that describes your organization, its history, and its team
- Add a "Contact" page with a physical address, email, and/or phone number
- Ensure the organization name on your website matches your Opengates profile name
- If your website is new, make sure it has enough content to demonstrate your organization's legitimacy
Step-by-Step: Submitting Your Verification
Regardless of which method you choose, the submission process follows the same general steps:
Step 1: Prepare Your Documentation
Before starting the verification process, gather the document or information you'll need:
- Registration Certificate — Have a clear digital copy ready (scan or photograph)
- Attestation Letter — Obtain the letter from the relevant institution and prepare a digital copy
- Website — Ensure your website is live, up-to-date, and matches your Opengates profile
Step 2: Navigate to Verification Settings
- Log in to your organization account on Opengates
- Go to your organization's Settings or Profile page
- Find the Verification section — this may be labeled as "Verify Your Organization," "Organization Verification," or similar
- Click to begin the verification process
Step 3: Select Your Verification Method
You'll be presented with the three verification options:
- Registration Certificate
- Attestation Letter
- Website
Select the method you've prepared for. You only need to complete one method.
Step 4: Submit Your Information
-
For Registration Certificate or Attestation Letter: Upload your document using the file upload interface. Make sure the file is clear, legible, and in a supported format (PDF, PNG, JPG, JPEG). Add any additional notes if the upload form allows it — for example, if your organization name on the document differs slightly from your profile name, explain why.
-
For Website: Enter or confirm your website URL. The URL should already be listed on your organization profile. If it's not, add it to your profile first, then return to the verification submission.
Step 5: Review and Submit
Before clicking the final submit button:
- Double-check that your uploaded document is legible and contains all required information
- Verify that your organization name on the document matches your Opengates profile
- Make sure your contact information is up-to-date in case the verification team needs to reach you
Click Submit to send your verification request for review.
Step 6: Wait for Review
After submission, your verification request enters the review queue. The Opengates verification team will review your submission and make a determination.
Review Timeline
The verification review process typically takes 3 to 7 business days, though the exact timeline can vary depending on:
- The volume of verification requests being processed
- The completeness and clarity of your submission
- Whether additional information or clarification is needed from you
During the Review
While your verification is being reviewed:
- Your organization account continues to function normally — you can still post tasks, manage affiliations, and use all platform features
- Your verification status will show as Pending in your settings
- You may receive a notification or email if the verification team needs additional information
Possible Outcomes
Your verification request will result in one of these outcomes:
- Approved — Your organization is verified. The verification badge appears immediately on your profile and all task listings. You'll receive a confirmation notification.
- Additional Information Required — The verification team needs more information or a clearer document. You'll receive specific instructions on what's needed. Submit the additional information promptly to avoid delays.
- Denied — Your verification request was not approved. This could happen if the submitted document is illegible, doesn't match your organization's profile, appears fraudulent, or doesn't meet the requirements. You'll receive an explanation and can submit a new request with corrected documentation.
After Verification
Once your organization is verified:
- The verification badge appears automatically across the platform
- Freelancers can see your verified status when viewing your tasks and profile
- Your organization benefits from increased trust and potentially higher visibility
- No further action is needed — the badge remains active as long as your organization maintains its account in good standing
Maintaining Your Verification
Your verification status remains active indefinitely under normal circumstances. However, if your organization makes significant changes — such as changing its name or merging with another entity — you may need to re-verify to ensure your badge reflects your current status accurately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I submit multiple verification methods?
You only need to complete one verification method. However, if your first submission is denied, you can try a different method for your next attempt.
What if my organization name on the document doesn't exactly match my profile?
Minor variations (such as "Inc." vs. "Incorporated" or slight spelling differences) are usually acceptable. Include a note explaining the discrepancy when you submit. Significant name differences may require you to update your profile name or provide additional documentation.
Is verification free?
Yes. Organization verification on Opengates is completely free. There are no fees for submitting a verification request or for receiving the verification badge.
Can my verification be revoked?
In rare cases, verification may be revoked if the organization is found to have submitted fraudulent documentation, or if the organization violates Opengates' terms of service. Maintaining honest, transparent operations on the platform ensures your verification remains active.
Do I need to re-verify periodically?
Under normal circumstances, no. Your verification is a one-time process. You may need to re-verify only if your organization undergoes significant changes, such as a legal name change or restructuring.
