The Opengates mobile app brings the full power of the freelancing marketplace to your pocket. Whether you're a freelancer managing projects on the go or a client reviewing proposals during your commute, the mobile app lets you stay connected and productive from anywhere.

This guide walks you through everything you need to know about downloading, installing, and setting up the Opengates mobile app on your iOS or Android device.

Where to Download

The Opengates mobile app is currently available on Android:

Google Play Store (Android)

For Android phone and tablet users:

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
  2. Tap the search bar at the top of the screen.
  3. Type "Opengates" and tap Search or press Enter.
  4. Find the official Opengates app in the search results (verify the developer name).
  5. Tap Install to begin downloading.
  6. The app will download and install automatically. Once complete, the Opengates icon will appear in your app drawer and possibly on your home screen.

iOS (Coming Soon)

The iOS version of the Opengates app is currently in development. Stay tuned for updates on the Apple App Store release. In the meantime, iOS users can access the full Opengates platform through the web app at opengates.app.

You can also access the download link directly from the Opengates website:

  • Visit opengates.app in your mobile browser.
  • Look for the Download App section or banner.
  • Tap the Google Play button for Android.
  • You'll be redirected to the Play Store listing.

System Requirements

To run the Opengates mobile app smoothly, your device should meet the following minimum requirements:

For the best experience, we recommend:

  • A device manufactured within the last 3-4 years.
  • At least 4 GB of RAM.
  • A stable internet connection (Wi-Fi or 4G LTE / 5G).
  • The latest version of Android.

If your device doesn't meet the minimum requirements, the app may not install, or you may experience performance issues such as slow loading, crashes, or feature limitations. In this case, you can use the Opengates web app through your device's browser as an alternative.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Download the App

Follow the instructions above to download the app from the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Open the App

Once the download is complete, tap the Opengates icon in your app drawer or on your home screen.

The app will launch and display the welcome screen.

Step 3: Sign In or Create an Account

On the welcome screen, you'll have two options:

Sign In (Existing Users)

If you already have an Opengates account:

  1. Tap Sign In or Log In.
  2. Enter your email address and password.
  3. If you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled, you'll be prompted to enter your verification code from your authenticator app or SMS.
  4. If you use passkeys, you may be prompted to authenticate with your device's biometric authentication (fingerprint or face recognition).
  5. Once authenticated, you'll be taken to the home screen.

Create an Account (New Users)

If you're new to Opengates:

  1. Tap Sign Up or Create Account.
  2. Enter your full name, email address, and password.
  3. Choose your account type (Freelancer, Client, or Both).
  4. Agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  5. Tap Create Account.
  6. You'll receive a verification email. Open it and tap the verification link to confirm your email address.
  7. Return to the app and sign in with your new credentials.

Step 4: Complete Your Profile

After signing in, you'll be guided through an initial profile setup:

  1. Upload a profile photo: Choose a clear, professional headshot.
  2. Write a bio: Describe yourself, your skills, and your experience in a few sentences.
  3. Add your skills: Select the skills and categories that match your expertise.
  4. Set your rate (for freelancers): Enter your hourly rate or project-based pricing.
  5. Set your location: This helps connect you with relevant opportunities in your area or timezone.

You can skip some of these steps and complete them later, but a complete profile is much more likely to attract clients and opportunities.

App Permissions

When you first use certain features of the Opengates app, your device will ask you to grant specific permissions. Here's what each permission is used for and why it's needed:

Camera

  • What it's used for: Taking profile photos, capturing images to share in messages, scanning documents for verification, and video calls.
  • When you'll be asked: The first time you try to take a photo or start a video call.
  • Required?: Not required for basic app usage, but needed for video calls and photo features.

Microphone

  • What it's used for: Voice calls and video calls within the app.
  • When you'll be asked: The first time you make or receive a call.
  • Required?: Not required for basic app usage, but needed for all calling features.

Notifications

  • What it's used for: Sending you push notifications for new messages, calls, contract updates, and other important events.
  • When you'll be asked: Usually during the initial setup or the first time a notification needs to be sent.
  • Required?: Highly recommended. Without notifications enabled, you may miss important messages and updates.

Photo Library / Storage

  • What it's used for: Sharing photos and files from your device in messages and uploading portfolio items.
  • When you'll be asked: The first time you try to share a photo or file.
  • Required?: Not required for basic app usage, but needed for sharing files and images.

Location (Optional)

  • What it's used for: Providing location-based features, such as finding nearby freelancers or events.
  • When you'll be asked: If you enable location-based features in settings.
  • Required?: Completely optional. The app works fully without location access.

How to Manage Permissions

If you accidentally deny a permission or want to change your settings later:

On iOS:

  1. Go to Settings > scroll down to Opengates.
  2. Toggle each permission on or off as needed.

On Android:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Opengates > Permissions.

Explore the App

Spend a few minutes exploring the different sections of the app:

  • Home: Your dashboard showing recent activity, notifications, and suggested opportunities.
  • Search/Browse: Find jobs, freelancers, or services.
  • Messages: Access your conversations, group chats, and calling features.

  • Enable two-factor authentication in Settings > Security.

On iOS: Settings > App Store > App Updates (toggle on). On Android: Play Store > Settings > Network Preferences > Auto-update apps.

Troubleshooting Installation Issues

App Won't Download

  • Check your storage: Make sure you have enough free storage space on your device.
  • Check your internet: Ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi or cellular data connection.
  • Restart the download: Cancel the download and try again.
  • Restart your device: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve download issues.

App Won't Open After Installation

  • Restart the app: Force-close the app and open it again.
  • Check for updates: Make sure your device's operating system is up to date.
